Chamravattom
Bridge is located across the second largest river in Kerala
Bharathappuzha. The bridge had officially inaugurated by the Kerala
chief minister Oommenchandy on May 18 2012. By the launching of
Chamravattam Bridge dream of the civilization of Malabar has fulfilled.
They have demanded for the bridge from the last 50 years. The foundation
for the Bridge has been laid two or three times at last the dream come
true at this time. Previous minister Paloli Muhammad Kutty is the key
person behind the success of this bridge. Before the launching of this
bridge people of Tirur has travel around 30 km by road to reach Ponnani
but it is now reduced to around 4 km. Peoples have used pontoon to
travel along the river to reach Tirur from Ponnani easily.
Adavantage of Chamravattom Bridge
The main advantage of Chamravattom Bridge is reducing of the duration of Kozhikode to Kochi route by approximately 40 kilometers, Tirur and Ponnani by 20 kilometres and reduces the distance between Ponnani and Malappuram by 10 kilometers. The bridge has also helped to reduce the traffic congestion at Edappal, Valanchery and Kottakal towns. The bridge helps to start KSRTC service on this route to various places. Along with travel benefits Chamravattom Bridge also a solution for the irrigation problems of this area. According to the minister they have planned to make project that provide drinking water up to 2040 from this area.
Disadvantage of Chamravattom Bridge
Chamravattom Bridge has provided some disadvantage along with advantage. The main disadvantage comes under the narrow roads on this route. Even the route reduces the duration, though the roads are narrow and damaged. The benefit of reduction of duration actually gets to people only after the development of the route. It has to be said that water near to Chamravattom Bridge has been foul after the making of the bridge. It has made the water to a black colour. According to the people foul is due to improper cleaning of grass land near the bridge while others have the opinion it is due to the blocking of water in Chamravattom regulator. Peoples who are bath on this river has been experiencing itching while bath. Water nearby Nariparambu Pump house also has fouled. The drinking water for Ponnani municipality and nearby places has taken from this pump house.
